Students create the worlds largest controller and it's for the NES! With the next-gen rumour-mill currently on overdrive I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon some news concerning some physically established hardware. And boy is it physical! According to Digital Trends, Engineering Students Benjamin Allen, Stephen van’t Hof, and Michel Verhulst have created a record breaking Nintendo Entertainment System controller.
Measuring in at twelve foot long, this 265 pound behemoth is currently on display at London's Liverpool Street Station supporting the release of the Guinness Book Of Records Gamer's Edition 2012. As well as supporting a Guinness Book Of Records release there's probably a reasonable argument that the controller could help support Liverpool Street Station's roof given that it has been built around a steel frame and fashioned to look like Nintendo's icon (and robust) gaming device.
The controller itself is an impressive recreation of Nintendo's original design with the addition of the word NEStalgia printed about the consoles globally recognisable two red buttons. Before being pressed into service as a supporting act for Guinesse's yearly instalment of factoids, the controller was built to the 105th anniversary of the electrical engineering student association at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. With goodies like this in the work I for one vote we celebrate the institution’s birth every year!
