Battlefield 3 takes on New Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3?
The next Call of Duty game will be announced within weeks, and with EAs Battlefield 3 looking so impressive we can expect both to compete for gamers hard earned cash.
EA is clearly vying for Activisions FPS crown and who can blame them given CODs success, its likely that Battlefield 3 will be released very close to the next COD. A confident move, however titles usually shift their release dates to avoid going head to head it maybe fool hardy.
A retail source told MCV
EA hasnt been shy with Battlefield 3. Its well known it will tackle CoD head-on,
Were ready for them to arrive within days of each other.
MCV was also informed that the November return for Call of Duty will be officially confirmed by the May 23rd.
It will be no surprise to any gamer if Modern Warfare 3 is the next Activision FPS, and yesterday reports on the internet suggested this was the case. Two logos were leaked; one clearly suggesting MW3, the other Call of Duty Elite which would suggest a premium online service. Its not known if the Elite branding is related to Project Beachhead which is n digital online service being developed for the Call of Duty franchise.
During a discussion around Activision financial results, it was confirmed that Project Beachhead would be released along with any new Call of Duty game.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick stated
It'll be an integral part to the innovation signature nature of the Call of Duty game that we're releasing this year. And as I said in my comments that we think we'll reset the bar once again for that genre and that franchise.
Bobby Kotick added that gamers will not have to pay extra for any services they have today.
"While we are attempting to deliver new incremental experiences that have yet heretofore been unseen by our players, we are not attempting to monetize or take any experience away that currently comes as part of the value proposition of buying the game."
It will be interesting to see whether Battlefield 3 can compete, and if Activision with their pedigree in online games (Blizzard, WOW) can redefine online shooters. Which AAA shooter are you going to be gunning for this year?

COD is turning into the FPS equivalent of WOW or at least that's what Activision hope.

COD is the best game I've ever played time and time again. I'm not a battlefeild fan what so ever. Though the impressiveness of their new product is nice, COD will not be out done. Now if they can just get PSN back up I'll be a happy man.

@Ash Ditto that. Battlefield will be a far better game I think, unless Activison really pull it out of the bag with a new engine. But even if Activision just stick with what they already have, chav's choice Modern Warfare will undoubtedly outsell everything that's ever been released before it, taking Battlefield to the cleaners at the same time. But I'm definitely going to be a part of that strong second, rather than the undeserving first 8-)

Even though BF3 is shaping up to be an impressive technical showcase, CoD is just too huge to be taken down. I can't see EA coming through this with a smile on its face.
